My first grade students need access to Chromebooks to help solidify basic skills in reading, science and math, as well as to gain access to opportunities for enrichment and challenge within the classroom.
A wide variety of students work and learn in my first grade classroom, some needing intervention and others enrichment. I value the engagement and variety that technology provides for my students. The academic programs that we use allow students to progress at their own pace and work independently, which allows me to work with other students to met their individual learning needs.
Access to technology allows me to design lessons with choice and variety. With the use of Chromebooks in class, student can access their literacy and math skill learning using technology, in addition to paper/pencil. When students have choices and different learning modaulities, they are more likely to engage in the learning.
My Project
For students who struggle in reading and math, learning though technology provides access to the content in a different way. Learning, using technology, provides both excitement and engagement that brings learning in first grade to a new level!
Chromebooks for my first grade classroom will increase access to technology for all students, creating a more equitable learning environment for all.
I am also very excited about the many new ways that our classroom will be able to approach and learn the new NGSS science curriculum. Our updated curriculum now includes a technology teaching component that Chromebooks will allow us to access. Interactive readings and experiments will help to excite our young budding scientists!
