The students in my classroom live in high poverty areas, resulting in very little exposure to technology at home. I want this year to give my students the hands-on experience with technology they need to succeed in our world today.
My students are eager to experience everything in the today's world, and with their eagerness comes a love for technology.
They love to learn using iPads, and are amazed at how much they can already do on their own. My students are always full of excitement when iPads are in their hands. Unfortunately, due to poverty, my students they only get to experience iPads at school. I want to encourage their eagerness by providing them with learning tools that will provide a whole new learning experience.
My Project
My students need an Osmo iPad learn through gaming system to allow them to take an active part in their own learn success. In my classroom students use technology daily, so the Osmo learning system would be in the hands of students at all times. Using the games that come with the Osmo system, Tangram, Newton, and Words, my students will be challenged in different ways for all subject areas. With the tangram, students are given positive "dings" when they place a shape correctly. The Newton requires students to guide falling balls into targeted zones by drawing correct shapes or correctly adding objects. Words allows students to spell out words to describe what is shown on the screen. My students will use the Osmo learning system when working in center areas, during student-lead small group teaching, and for whole group presentations. Needless to say, the Osmo system will be continuously in the hands of my students.
Having opportunities to think outside the box is what 21st teaching is all about, and that is exactly what the Osmo learning system will provide for my students.
This technology will not only make learning interesting and exciting for my students, but it will also provide them with the greatly needed exposure to new forms of technology. The Osmo learning system will ensure that my students have a solid technological foundation on which future successes is build.
