This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is an inevitable part of education these days. Decoding, fluency and stamina are also what makes a good reader.

My students are in third and fourth grade and reading below grade level.

Motivating them to read, especially independently can be a struggle. Their decoding and fluency are a concern. They attend a high poverty, inner-city school where over half the student population qualify for free or reduced lunch.

My Project

We are requesting four Leapfrog Tag systems, books that can be used with the Tag pen, and four Leapfrog Tag Cases to keep the materials organized and safe. With this technology, my students will be able to have books read aloud to them, assist them with decoding when they come across a word they don't know and provide them with the motivation to read independently due to the technological interaction with the text.

With the Leapfrog Tag system, my students will be able to work on decoding through the interactive pen and required texts.

Fluency would also improve by rereading the text and the option of having the text read to him/her. Lastly, independent reading stamina would increase through the motivational use of technology.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
