My students need three Screen Printing Units plus45 Linoleum and two Block Printing Kits, and 15 new lino cutters to have a safe way to do printmaking. We are going to combine screen printing and printmaking since the inks can be used for both.
In my middle school classes students write their own lesson plans so an average day in my class looks like every student creating their own project. Usually there are many different projects at one time. Currently they are doing pottery, paper mache, architecture, wood carving and painting.
I am in a Title I1 school so my students have their own mountains to climb outside of school.
However you would never know that in my room. They are driven, hard working, grateful and curious. I have been here eight years and would not work anywhere else. They are always willing to take on something new with gusto! We are a Leader in Me school so we give every child a chance to demonstrate their leadership abilities. We have student run assemblies, student run awards ceremonies and Talent shows run by the kids. Every class room has jobs that the kids create and do with confidence. We are truly an incredible place to be.
My Project
My students need three Screen Printing Units plus 45 Linoleum and two Block Printing Kits, and 15 new lino cutters to have a safe way to do printmaking. We are going to combine screen printing and printmaking since the inks can be used for both. These materials will be used for students to continue to build the leadership atmosphere within our school. Last year my 6th graders created a "Power Out Bullying" program in which they screen printed the backs of uniform shirts with their slogan. This year I would like to see them be able to expand that by screen printing leadership quotes onto shirts, sweatshirts and banners. I would love to see them be able to create print blocks that can also be reused and printed on note cards for the school stationary. They could print these on shirt fronts with quotes on the back as well. The ink for screen printing works for block printing so would allow them to cut costs. The cutters are a necessity because our current one are too old and dull to actually cut anymore. I just ordered some boards made to hold the blocks so that it improves the safety of this project as well. They will learn about the careers, art forms, and processes of printmaking and screen printing.
Being a Leader in Me school means creating an environment in which students feel compelled to lead.
It is about helping every kid find their niche even if it is not academic. Every single student has something they are good at and we have every intent on helping each student find that. These supplies would allow students to create a relatable, wearable art work that would remind students every single day that they have the power to lead.
