Are you someone who needs to see a picture, video, or visual aid to help you "get" a concept when you're being taught? Then you are just like my students. Help bring us into the 21st century! An LCD projector will bring so many resources closer to the students in my classroom.
The students at Lighthouse Community School are mostly made up of students in and around the community of Madisonville (Cincinnati), who would like to attend a school that is small, individualized, and attentive to various academic and social needs.
Sponsored by Lighthouse Youth Services, our school works closely with Jobs and Family Services and other organizations to help advance the dignity of youth and their families.
Many of our students are on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and need intensive instruction to bring them up to grade level. Our school works tirelessly to get them where they need to be and help them succeed. Without our school, many students in the city would drop out and never graduate. My students are outgoing, hilarious, and incredibly talented. I love bringing out the readers and writers in them, and showing them that they are capable of so much.
My Project
An LCD projector will help me with every unit I teach. Particularly, I am planning on using the projector to connect students with video resources that can add life and background to the literature we are studying. The new standardized test (PARCC) will require students to view a variety of resources (including multimedia) when answering a test question. This is a skill my students must be practicing right now. I am able to give tutorials of research skills to the students so they are equipped with these tools when they do research on their own.
Students will learn how to create powerpoint and Prezi presentations of research projects they will complete, and will be expected to give presentations to the class using the projector as a visual aid.
Your donation will help impact the education of some of the highest-needs students in Cincinnati, and will be a step in closing the education gap.
You are contributing toward engaging students in the classroom in ways they have never been before!
