My students need transportation and admission to visit the aquarium to help them understand what the ocean is, what lives there, and how to help it thrive.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Denver is a landlocked city. Most of our students have never seen the ocean, and have a difficult time conceptualizing this habitat. I want our students to take what we are learning about ocean animals and plants in the classroom, and have real application.
My kids are motivated learners between 4 and 5 years old that just want to explore.
Our school is a Title I school, and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Most of my students do not have the financial capabilities to take any trips with their families, but talk about the journeys they would love to have. My students work hard every day to be college-ready, and they will be.
My Project
Our class spends two months studying integrated units of plants, animals, and habitats. Most of our students go their whole lives not seeing the ocean, which makes it hard to comprehend. I want my students to begin understanding what the ocean is, what lives there, and how we can help it thrive. What better way than to visit the Aquarium?
I want them to see a shark.
I want them to grow up with a frame of reference when it comes to a world-wide habitat. I want to give my students something concrete to remember. But more than anything, I want my students to be inspired by the wonders of the ocean. Visiting the aquarium will help my students in more ways than I can even explain!
