Kindergarteners need a lot of time for exploration and hands-on learning! Using our senses is a fantastic way to learn! Now that our classroom has a sensory table, the students need the resources to truly explore, problem solve, critically think, and have fun!
I work in a Title I classroom.
I love my school, love my students, and love teaching! Our school has amazing parents, teachers, and students who want to learn and grow. The students have such a desire to learn, but they need to be given the tools to succeed. Their eager minds need extra help and materials that they don't always have at home. Several students in my classroom have special needs each year, so these types of sensory activities will really benefit them. They need help with motor skills, and they need to be able to have hands-on activities to help them learn.
My Project
With the sensory materials for our classroom, students for many years will be able to explore the world around them by using their senses. Instead of just hearing about the science, math, and social studies concepts, they get to actually DO. They get to use their own senses to learn, not just by listening to a teacher talk. This is so important, because children learn by doing. It's better to weigh objects by yourself than to listen to somebody tell about how objects are heavier and lighter than other objects. What better way to learn about textures than actually feeling different textures and manipulating them with your hands? The children at our school need opportunities to learn through hands-on exploration.
This project will help so many children for many years.
The Fine Motor Tweezer Tongs, Super-Safe Eyedroppers and Sensory Tubs will help those students who need extra fine motor attention. The children will have a very engaging way to learn new concepts, and this will help lessons stick into their minds more.
