I can't wait to open the door to my new Kinders this year! We will be learning and growing at a rapid pace! One new feature to my classroom this year will be to set aside time for Math Learning Stations. This will be a time where students get to choose a station to work at to deepen their math skills!
My students come to me from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
Some have already developed some number sense and some are just beginning to count and recognize numerals! 100% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and many students don't have access to math games and manipulatives at home to deepen their number sense skills.
My Project
One new feature to my classroom this year will be set aside time for Math Learning Stations. Students will get to choose a station where they will explore and engage with math concepts and manipulatives. Many students learn by doing, and this time will help students to take the skills and strategies we are learning during our math lesson and make them more concrete. You might see some students playing a game with a partner that helps them learn combinations to 5 and another table with ten-frames and counters to practice one-to-one correspondence and number sense. Each table will have a tub with activities, manipulatives and/or books to explore! Students will have already practiced the skill/game or read the book, but this will be an independent chance for them to go deeper, explore the concept and strengthen their understanding of what we are learning during our daily math lessons.
Many of these stations take time and money to prepare.
Your donation would help these stations be available for students to have access to right away! You are putting manipulatives and games in the hands of students to help them develop a better and deeper understanding of the math concepts we are teaching each day in the classroom. It is truly an effective way to engage students in the learning, make connections and generalizations to these skills in real life and develop a love for math!
