This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is a place of safety, honesty, laughter, stability and most of all equality for all my kids. Equality is not only race or gender but giving each child the opportunity to learn using their strengths and also creating lessons and instruction to meet their individual needs.
I am honored to to be trusted with the responsibility of helping five and six year olds enjoy learning, have a passion for reading, and interact socially with one another.
They are a compassionate group of 25 who cheer for each Other's successes and assist in their friends learning. Once a student patted a friend on the back and said, "good job writing your name by yourself." I am so proud that although my kids have such a large difference in their academic abilities they do not exclude or intimidate anyone.
My kiddos come from two parent homes, single parent homes, parent(s) working two jobs, young parents, unstable communities, etc while some of these situations are ideal, most are not. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch, and most eat everything available to them.
Since beginning school (2 weeks late due to community unrest) I have seen my kids confidence and academics grow in amazing ways. All parents want the best for their child but time is a challenge for some.
My Project
The two iPad minis will enable my lower academic students an alternative way of learning. Students will be able to work in groups and support each other's learning. Some of my students learn by using a hands on approach, others learn better through audio while others need a visual. The two iPad minis will allow every student in our classroom to learn according to their learning style.
My special needs students will be able to communicate and socialize with other students by working in groups and learn social skills. The two IPad minis will also allow me to asses students more accurately because some are unable to use a computer mouse and one of our required assessments is internet based.
The kids will get to learn through fun and engaging activities through whole group activities also. I'm requesting two due to my class size. Last year I had 27 kiddos in my kindergarten class and could easily receive as many children this year and in years to come.
This donation will assist me in differentiating instruction for each of my students not only this year but for many years.
This will give students who do not have access to internet at home the same opportunities as others. I can't explain the emotions I feel when a student has learned a new skill they have been struggling with. They are so much more confident and I feel I have given them what they deserve- HAPPINESS.
