My students need storage totes, sand timers, bean bags with letters and numbers, and scented markers to help us organize and make learning more fun and engaging.
"With these hands, with this heart, with this mind, we can do anything!" We say this every morning and each day they realize they really can.
Many enter the school year not knowing how to spell their name or recognize letters and leave at the end of the year being able to read.
It's the magic of kindergarten. We learn, play and become friends in our diverse school in Alaska. We play outside in the snow, sled down hills and sometimes avoid going outdoors all together in the winter and go on nature walks and read in the sun during the rare few months of sunshine and warmth.
My Project
Amid all of the activities going on in and out of the walls of our classroom, organization is the key to a smooth day the storage tubs will help our class be more organized. One of my goals during the school year is to enable my students to become independent. From tying shoes to completing jobs, independence will set my students up for success for their future. Organization for centers, activities, writing, and so on, will allow my students to know where supplies are. This not only lightens my load, but creates a classroom where students are in charge of their learning. The other tools will be used to engage students and make learning enjoyable.
I spend hours decluttering at the end and beginning of each year, but without fail, a month or two into school and I feel cluttered and disorganized once again.
With more storage and organizational tools, my hope is that our class stays tidy all year long, improving time spent on academics and learning and independence.
