My Students

What do you mean we're improving our reading fluency? I thought we were having a karaoke party! I have a great group of students, but they could always use more motivation to learn. Karaoke brings music and fun into reading. What a great combination!

I have a class full of diversity.

One of my students was born in a foreign country and ten of my students have parents who were born in a foreign country. More than half of my class speaks a language other than English at home. Those languages include Spanish, Hawaiian, Persian, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, and Polish. We come from all kinds of backgrounds.

My Project

I have a classroom full of diversity, but one thing that every kids has in common is music. I use music to teach, motivate, calm, and reward my students. I love to see the kids dancing and singing along to a song that is teaching them about everything from prepositions to multiplication. I have seen how much they enjoy singing. We had a karaoke party, with a borrowed karaoke machine, one day and I realized that singing not only can teach subjects like grammar and math, but can do so much more. My kids were not just singing, but they were reading and having a great time doing it! What a great way to improve self esteem and give the kids a chance to perform!
