The class that is coming to me next year is a group with a handful of twice exceptional students. Twice exceptional means that the child is brilliant, but also has significant special education needs. These needs include needing alternative seating in the classroom.
Our school is a GT magnet school with a classroom at each grade level that is designated for the highly gifted learner.
With gifted students, there is often a quirky side that requires special attention. Not only does the gifted teacher need to accelerate learning, but he/she also needs to be in tune with the emotional needs of the gifted child. These needs include: the feeling of perfection, the feeling of not being good enough, the need to move around, the need for alternative ways to access materials, the need to display learning alternatively, etc. Our school does what they can to help teachers reach these needs, but limited funding doesn't allow the teachers to be 100% successful on their own. That is why I am reaching out to donors like you.
My Project
I envision the Stabili-T stools to be used for the handful of students in my classroom who need alternative seating arrangements to help with movement. These stools will be used for the restless child. My hope is that these stools will be a tool for students to strive to use. Since I am requesting ten, there will need to be a reward system for use. At the same time, I may require students to use as needed to help regain focus if attention is lost during the school day.
Your donation to this project will mean a lot to my students and me.
This is my proactive effort to help foster a successful learning environment that meets the needs of all students. Truthfully, I wish I could have all students with one of these stools at their desks, but I'm starting with just ten. Please consider donating to this project to help support the alternative needs in education.
