Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order for my students to become technologically savvy, they need hands on experiences that they can apply to real life situations. My students' ability to learn one of the worlds most used technological devices is crucial to their knowledge as students in the 21st century

My students attend a public school in which 85% of the students receive free and/or reduced price meals for both breakfast and lunch.

The 24 students in my class are from a low socio-economic background. The majority of students at my school are limited English speakers whose home language is Spanish. Several of my students come from homes in which little or no English is spoken. Our surrounding neighborhood has a large residential area but is also zoned for heavy industry, oil refineries, rail yards, and warehouse storage. Gang activity in the area is also a factor in crime reporting. Many of the students in my class do not have a computer in their home. For many of my students the only time they use a computer is when they are at school. We have three computers in our classroom and a computer lab that we attend once a week.

My Project

My students need an Android Tablet to keep up with the latest trends in technology and education. Technology literacy is a critical element in today's society. As today's culture quickly changes with the developments of new technology devices, my students skills need to coincide with the latest trends and developments of our world's technology. My students opportunities and abilities to learn are limitless when it comes to using an Android. The Android does not know boundaries. The students abilities to use this latest technology is not limited to one area of the curriculum, it can be used in all areas of education; reading, writing, math, science, social studies, technology, etc. Students will: become proficient in the use of technology, be able to use this technology for directed and independent learning activities, work collaboratively and in cooperation with their peers, learn appropriate and accurate terminology, use developmentally appropriate interactive books, educational games, and reading programs.

Please help to provide a learning environment that takes my students beyond the walls of our classroom and into a world of endless opportunities.

The Android will help to transform my classroom by ensuring that digital-age students are empowered to learn, live and work successfully today and tomorrow.
