My Students

Library Media Specialists in our county were cut in half during the school year 2011-2012. Most of my primary students suffered and were not able to access the library to check out books for their research and entertainment. Hence, their passion for reading never fades.

I have a total of 537 students, 96% are African American.

The school has 285 females and 252 males. The children have no access to public libraries where they can borrow books. The library is only open twice a week. Sadly, I have no Junie B. Jones in the library. I need chapter books. More chapter books for my students. The school's reading proficiency level has gone down in recent years. To prevent this from happening I need to push the students to read more texts at an early stage of their development. I am introducing chapter books to first grade students this coming school year. Initially, girls will be the beneficiary of this project. My primary girls love reading. Surprisingly, they never heard about this silly little girl named "Junie". Junie B. Jones book series will motivate them to read. This will add excitement to their adventures in school and at home. They will learn how to solve problems and be a critical and logical thinker.

My Project

Junie B. Jones is a book series about a little girl named "Junie". Her adventures in school and at home are very realistic. Girls can relate to her mishaps, funny antics, problem solving situations, and family relationship. The book will teach them how to life skills which they will apply as they grow up. This is a basic book for first graders who can't read compound texts. The vocabulary is easy to understand. My students will love it.

Reading is very important key to be a successful individual.

I want to instill the value of reading books. There's no computer program that will replace books. I want to see my students carrying their book bag and carrying their library books on the other hand.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
