"We all can dance when we find music that we love" ~ Gerald from Giraffes Can't Dance (Giles Andreae) In my Speech/Language Therapy groups we operate on this philosophy. A world of possibilities will be open to my students when using the innovative communication tools of the iPad2!
My students are funny, creative, thoughtful, inspiring, and insightful.
They display daily perseverance to overcome communication challenges rooted in autism, developmental delays, articulation disorders, hearing impairments, and language disorders. Many are non-verbal and require interactive, visual support in order to make choices, express likes/dislikes, or answer questions.
My Project
I am eagerly anticipating the use of an iPad 2 to introduce my students to new and engaging speech/language therapy lessons. There are a vast assortment of free apps to teach story telling, conversation skills, sound production, listening skills and memory strategies. My first free downloads will include Toontastic (creating cartoons while learning story elements), Core Curriculum vocabulary cards (to connect with concepts being learned in class), and Webber Photo Articulation Castle (interactive speech sound practice). Data collection and analysis is a critical component to my therapy. I will purchase Super Duper's Data Tracker App for monitoring and documenting my students' IEP goal progress. Data and projects can be emailed straight from the iPad 2, enabling parents to receive real-time speech/language therapy information. The iPad 2 will assist me during interventions, assessments, therapy as well as providing task completion incentives for students.
Thank you for supporting this project!
My students will now have 21st Century Learning tools to accomplish their communication goals and become confident communicators! You are making an impact in children's lives.
