My students are energetic, creative, and talented kids with a desire to learn. Classrooms in our school are a melting pot of cultures, socioeconomic statues, languages, and personalities. We are a Title I school with a population of 591 K- 5th grade students, 70.2% considered low-income.
Each of my students is full of potential.
My goal is to surround them with a variety of engaging learning opportunities, such as a digital listening center, to encourage and strengthen them to reach their potential. An iPad can bring a world of literature to my students with the simple touch of a screen.
My Project
This past year we used a single iPad in our classroom purchased out of my own pocket. The iPad was a great addition to our reading time. However, having only one iPad limits how frequently students can work on much needed skills. Having two more iPad minis will allow students to utilize this center more frequently, increasing their opportunity to grow as life-long readers.
Having a listening center is beneficial to our early readers in a number of ways.
iPads incorporate technology and assist in accommodating different learning styles. Our iPads will be used on a daily basis, primarily during our literacy centers. Books that students listen to on the iPad provide models of strong, fluent reading. This is especially important for the 27.7% of our students who are English Language Learners. Donate today and help enrich our reading!
