Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom consists of small/whole group instruction with rotating stations. My biggest challenge is not having consistent technology in my classroom. The quote "each student can learn just not the same day or the same way" shows the importance of how technology can help students
I have 21 students in my classroom.
11 girls and 10 boys. Our school ranges from Kindergarten to grade 5. My school has more than 700 students and it is an inner city school. My school welcomes a diverse student population and implements a variety of experiences to reach out to our school community. Some of our events include Literacy Volunteers Program, Family Fun and Learning Nights, Neighborhood Clean-Up, and the Spring Community Art Show. My school has a very active PTO that is very supportive of the teachers. My students come to school eager to learn new things everyday. They work very hard to complete all tasks throughout the day. But, many of my students learn in a different way, and it would be a great help to enhance the technology in our classroom.
My Project
Students will use these Ipads in every subject throughout the day. In reading, during daily 5 stations, each group will read at their just right level on a reading program that targets their needs. During writing, students can assess an On-line dictionary or word bank if needed. In math, there are various websites for students to use for extra reinforcement and for a specific skill. Also, we need the Ipads for research. We have a non fiction unit that we need to research biographies of people and animals. Students can use these I pads for their visual, auditory, and their kinesthetic needs. Also, in Social Studies students can use it for looking at the city we live in, use maps, and other apps to help with their location. Ipads are a great resource in the classroom as we use it for rotating stations throughout the year. Stations are always differentiated during the year and students are put on websites for reinforcing skills that need to be addressed.
As technology is becoming more and more of a need in schools, these Ipads will allow students to learn in a diverse way and helps students focus at their own speed.
Students can rotate the I pads each morning for morning work and help students understand responsibility for their Ipads. If students have their own level of reading and math, each time they sign on their name & I pad, the I pad will help track progress at their level.
