My Students

To keep up with 21st Century skills the public school classrooms are constantly evolving. The biggest changes come in the realm of technology. Today's students have the world at their fingertips IF they have the tools. iPads are the perfect 21st century classroom tool to enrich student skills.

I teach at a rural school with a free and reduced lunch population of above 50%.

As a school, we use every resource to offer students opportunities to participate in 21st century learning. As teachers we are constantly challenged to teach the curriculum while keeping students motivated and challenged. For many of our students, the classroom offers the one opportunity to plug into technology because they have limited or no access to these tools at home. I am constantly working to create new, fun, and exciting lessons to get my students engaged in the learning process.

My Project

I am looking forward to starting a new year with my third grade students and immersing them with 21st century skills with the help of technology, specifically iPads. I have my Language Arts and Math classes participate in Literacy Stations and cooperative small groups. One of the stations has the IPad for activities. Adding an IPad to my classroom would allow students more time to access the many apps available to enhance their learning, specifically Spelling City, Educreations, iBooks, and a variety of grammar and math practice apps. They would have more time to create and explore.

My goal is to help engage the students and create an active learning community.

I want to open students' eyes to all the possibilities of new technology. IPads are mobile, lightweight, and kid-friendly. Especially with budget cuts and class sizes increasing, classroom space is limited and iPads are perfect for the 21st Century classroom!
