This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an interventionist at an elementary school, working with students that struggle learning how to read.. My biggest challenge with my students is motivation and engagement. I believe technology can bridge the gap with struggling readers.

My students used to get left behind but now they have hope.

They are surrounded by incredibly supportive teachers working together to help them reach their goals. They are the hardest workers in the school, trying every day to overcome their reading difficulties. They are positive despite their academic challenges. My students initially struggle to identify themselves as readers but soon find the joy and love of reading.

My Project

An iPad mini would give me one additional tool to use with my struggling readers. We would use the iPad to access e-books so students have a variety of texts that are interesting and engaging. Students will also have access to a variety of educational apps that have been shown to support growth in reading. I would use the iPad to track data on the students and monitor their progress.

Most of the students that I see do not have access to this type of technology outside of school.This project will help me bring technology into my intervention classroom.

It will provide a way for students to positively interact with modern technology while developing reading skills and strategies.
