My students need Apple iPads to enhance their learning through technology. These iPads will also allow students to create and share numerous classroom projects.
Have you noticed a shift in the way children are learning? If not, I have! Students are learning in a whole new way and you may have witnessed this at home. Computers, smartphones, and tablets are replacing textbooks, notebooks, pencils and paper!
My middle school students are full of curiosity, and creative ideas.
The few times I was able to check out the iPads from our library, I was blown away by the amount of quality learning and creative resources that is available to assist with student's learning.
Our school is located in an urban area of Wisconsin with a very diverse population of students. Twenty percent of my students are English Language Learners and seventeen percent receive special education services. Almost forty percent of the students at my school are economically disadvantaged. As such, it is imperative that we provide these students with opportunities to have these experiences at school.
My Project
I teach 7th grade geography and world cultures. Unfortunately, students cannot click on a link in their textbooks that will open a video of a busy market in India. They cannot Skype a classroom in Brazil and talk about the recent World Cup using their textbook. Finally, they cannot be inspired by their interactive learning and create amazing projects to demonstrate what they have learned, by only using a textbook.
Your support will help me and students by creating an interactive, inquiry based learning environment where students will have the opportunity to take charge of their learning through creative projects, collaborate with others through social media (not just Facebook and Twitter), and have ownership over their education.
