My Students

In today's world, technology has proven to be a key platform for communication. Age, race and socioeconomic status go by the wayside with the great equalizer that is technology.

The students in my class are full of curiosity, energy and a desire to learn.

They are motivated to learn new things and take it upon themselves to find the answers to their questions. We are a looping class, so these 1st graders will all move together with me to 2nd grade to continue our journey. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities, but they all love to learn and they work hard to do so. Our school is very diverse and on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale. Our students have many obstacles in their lives, but they are driven to learn and better themselves as students and as citizens.

My Project

The iPad is an amazing tool for education. It provides opportunities for every learning style and level. An iPad goes far beyond educational games and apps. It broadens each student's scope of understanding into a realm of invention and pure creation. There are many applications available on the iPad that allow students to express their learning through pictures, voice recordings, videos, charts and slideshows- whatever method suits them best as thinkers and learners! The possibilities are endless and so exciting. In a world saturated with technology, these students would have an opportunity to experience that technology at their fingertips. Jobs in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are in high demand, but lack qualified applicants. I want my students to have a leg up in that race when they enter the job market and this project is one piece to making their futures brighter.

I believe that this project will impact the way my students see the world around them.

An iPad would give them the opportunity to leave the walls of our school and explore this great big world that they live in. Students who previously were disengaged might find that learning is not only enjoyable, but the very thing he or she looks forward to in the classroom each day. Who knows? Maybe through this project they'll gain the confidence to do something truly amazing.
