My students need an iPad for practice with a variety of reading, handwriting, and math activities that collaborate with our literacy and math programs.
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world." - David Warlick
My students love to learn.
They love to learn and practice in a variety of ways. They come to school each day eager to participate and engage in new ways to look at things. Some students have access to technology at home, while others are only exposed to it in our classroom. Our limited technology in the classroom makes it difficult for me to expose all students to the technology they are expected to know how to use for future statewide assessments. I know students will continue to share, be engaged, and look forward to additional technology in our classroom. Their enthusiasm for learning will only continue to grow as they are provided with something they can see, touch, explore, and create on.
My Project
It is my goal to use the iPad primarily for whole group exercises, but also for small groups too. Our reading and math programs currently have a technology component to them that will allow students to hear and see concepts explained in a variety of ways through interesting characters and pictures. An iPad will only enhance my teaching, and reiterate tough concepts as we get to them. In small groups I know the Apple Apps will be beneficial as students can practice their fine motor skills, or letter recognition, or addition/subtraction facts in a fun and new way that will allow them to feel comfortable on a piece of technology that will be so important for their future.
Students are expected to be familiar with computers and tablets for many common core assessments, and I know that being able to expose my first graders to this variety of technology will help them become confident, enthusiastic, and most importantly well rounded as they move forward in each grade.
