How often do you use your iPhone? Your iPad? A computer?
My AMAZING, creative, vivacious students only use a computer 1-2 times per week. My readers, artists, poets, graphic designers, computer engineers...they deserve more!
My students are 21 fantastic and energetic kindergartners from the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
They come from various cultural backgrounds and languages, creating a truly unique and diverse classroom. Many of them lack access to technology in the home which motivates us to provide these tools for our students even more.
They are funny, dedicated, brilliant, kind, inquiring minds who rise to any academic challenge presented to them. My students are 5 and 6 year olds who need stimulating and enthralling academic exposures in order to help solidify the content they are learning.
We learn together in a large K-6 school that does the best it can for our highly impoverished population. Our school has a large ELL population and high needs for differentiation and authentic learning experiences. Our school is a family of teachers, support staff and learners that truly care about one another and work together to deliver the best for each and every one of our students.
My Project
With the addition of iPads into our classroom, we will be one of the only classrooms in the school that has access to such technology. My students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world.
My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, learning phonemic awareness skills, working with math manipulatives and more. They will receive adaptive technology while waiting in the progress monitoring or I.E.P. process. They will be able to create both independent and collaborative projects in order to show true understanding of concepts.
iPads are integral and amazing tools that should be present in every classroom.
Without consistent access to technology, my students are not able to access 21st century skills. I believe that they should not be held back because of lack of funds, but deserve to explore and learn on the same level as students who have this access.
Our classroom will be forever changed by the addition of iPads. All students will be able to access learning through technology on a daily basis - amazing!
