Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is lucky to have one iPad, but it is lonely and would like a friend. Please help us get a friend!
Today's educators have an additional responsibility to get students ready for the 21st century.
This task has been made more difficult by the rapid growth in technology and the slow acquisition of money for classrooms. My 24 students have young impressionable minds. They live only minutes away from some of the most influential minds in technology. Think about Steve Jobs, Apple, Yahoo, and Google.
I have a great class of third graders who are so eager to try anything new. They are learning how to use tablets for educational purposes with apps. They also see how this technology can help their learning by reading books on the tablets. Logging on to our school's library is becoming second nature to them.
They are even teaching me how to push the limits of technology. They are not afraid of technology.
My Project
Our school is slowly acquiring tablets to use in the classrooms. Unfortunately, these resources are shared throughout the campus. We would love to have a second classroom iPad, case and stylus to use throughout every day of the school year.
We are lucky enough to use the school iPads several times a week. Next year we are hoping to have more portable technology available to the classroom.
With a second classroom iPad, more students will have access to more apps and to the Internet right at their desks.
As we move into the Common Core, we need students to be more engaged with their learning.
Using an iPad to help explain and teach each other will solidify the learning of the student as they take on the role of the "teacher" and it will support the learning for the entire class.
