Technology is everywhere, and has become a part of nearly every aspect of everyday life. Shouldn't we then integrate more technology into our classrooms in order to facilitate a 21st Century learning environment?
Do you remember what it was like to learn something new for the first time?
Do you recall how exciting it was to succeed at something you never dreamed possible? I am lucky enough to get to witness that excitement, eagerness, joy, and love of learning on a daily basis. I have a diverse group of 18 first grade students from various backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic groups. Many of the kids in my class do not have access to technology on a daily basis. What better way to acquire new knowledge, experiment, publish, research, and grow than with up-to-date, hands on technology?
My Project
My first graders will use these iPads on a daily basis as part of our literacy and math lessons. The iPads can be used both individually, or in a small group setting. This technology will aid in differentiating core instruction so that I can better meet the individual learning needs of all of my students. Plus, learning will be fun! The kids will enjoy researching new topics, making videos and voice threads, or practicing an emerging skill while using these iPads.
Donations to this projects will be greatly appreciated.
By adding technology to my classroom, I will then be able to provide much needed tools and resources to accommodate my students' diverse learning needs. Whether used independently, or in a small collaborative group, iPad Minis will help prepare my students for a technology-dependent future.
