iOpening Experience

My students need iPads, a cover and iTunes giftcard as a way to be actively engaged, to grow as digital citizens, as well as connect with classes from around the world through Skype.

My Students

What's a more engaging way to learn, discovering other countries by studying maps or Skyping with a class located there? Reading about animal cells in a book or creating an iMovie about them? Having iPads in the classroom would open up the door to new possibilities in engaging students in learning.

One of the best ways to learn is through experience.

We're hoping to experience the cultures of the world by making connections through Skype. Having iPads would allow us to connect through our Apple TV to project Skype calls as well as allow us to access apps like Google Earth during projects such as Mystery Skyping. We are a sixth grade class in rural Massachusetts. Many of the students have had limited access to communities outside of our state. We'd love to be able to learn more about the classes, schools, and communities outside of our own to find out the similarities and differences between others and ourselves. These sixth graders are hard-working, eager, and determined and will take in so much from the materials that are provided. I'd love to be able to provide them with the materials that will provide them the best opportunities possible.

My Project

The coast of Australia. The beaches of Hawaii. The beautiful mountains of the Colorado Rockies. These are places many would love to travel to including us. However, our field trip funds probably wouldn't stretch that far. That doesn't mean that we can't still find a way to travel there, to communicate with the people who live in the area to find out more about the culture, the schools, and the communities in that area. The materials that we've requested will allow us to use Skype to connect with classes from around the globe. The iPads will allow for us to engage digital natives. We'll be able to use the many unbelievable apps to create projects that will make the learning experience more meaningful and enjoyable We'd like to be able to flatten our classroom walls so that we may connect with classes around the world. These materials would provide students with opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't have.

Every sixth grade student that we have is hard-working, dedicated, caring, and compassionate.

They deserve the best. I know that while opening up these boxes in the classroom, we'd have 33 smiling faces. That's all any of us can ever hope for. Thank you for all of your support. Words can never truly express how appreciative we are for it!
