Teacher Professional Development: I need an iPad Air 2 and case for professional development sessions I plan to participate in this spring. <profdevpilot>
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” As an educator, I believe this to be true for teachers, as well as students. With a specific plan of action, I will learn more with the help my technology mentor, lesson plans and an iPad Air 2.
My library is without a doubt, the center of the school.
I see all students no less that once a week. Some grades levels come more often. I am fortunate to work at a dedicated and committed elementary feeder school with more than 500 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. We are definitely a community that is centered on education and our children. I have taught several grade levels, and feel I have finally found a true home as a librarian and book lover. I see all 500+ students weekly and love it. Our school is blessed with wonderful students who love to read and teachers who are in the teaching profession for all of the right reasons.
My goal as their librarian is to switch roles for this project and become the student again. In turn, as a professional, I can offer the students and teachers more in terms of academics through the use of an iPad.
My Project
My current plan of action in a Professional Development capacity, includes meeting 1 to 1 after school with my school's part-time technology specialist. The lesson plan for my educational journey includes meeting for 3 private sessions for me to achieve a clear understanding of the power of iPads in school settings. In addition to that, my teacher gathered professional development articles and tutorials to enhance my journey geared toward effective academic uses of iPads. My personalized Professional Development reading list is on our elementary school's technology website. Through the use of the requested iPad Air 2 (and case) in this grant, she will guide me with my learning path. Our collaborated plan of action in terms of learning lies with striving for 2 goals: Component 1 includes learning technical issues and physical components such as iTunes, eBook downloads, searching for and downloading apps for the iPad and Component 2 is to search for ways to implement iPad lessons.
Together you and I have a rare opportunity that would enable me as the librarian, to learn more about the powerful use of iPads in academic settings.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” To become a better educator, I need to step back and become involved as a student again. With the help of my mentor guiding me and your funding, I will strive to become a better educator. Will you consider helping me on this unique journey?
