"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." ~Ben Franklin~
Let's face it, can you find more powerful words to represent a school and learning? Having upgraded school computers is critical in today's world. My goal is to "involve" the students with 21st Century tools.
My library is, without a doubt, the center of the school.
I see all students no less that once a week. Some grades levels come more often. I am fortunate to work at a dedicated and committed elementary feeder school with 544 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. We are definitely a community that is centered on education and our children. I have taught several grade levels and feel I have finally found a true home as a librarian and book lover. I see all students weekly and love it. Our school is blessed with wonderful students who love to read and teachers who are in the teaching profession for all of the right reasons.
My Project
Technology is part of our school's vision. The library is the center of our school, and as the librarian, I "involve" our students with activities by offering technology-based activities. As new technologies emerge annually, we're working to gain new equipment to enhance student learning. We've had an "Eye on Tech" campaign in place since 2009. At this time, I'd like to continue growing by adding a camera and its accessories to the library. This digital tool would enhance many of my reading lessons. The students could use it for project-based learning projects. A new camera would enable my students to participate in academic and art lessons that also enhance my lessons. Technology brings so much to the classroom. "Empowering Students Through Art" meshed with the curriculum is my goal with a camera. To achieve my goal of adding digital lessons to my library, my students need a camera, flash, memory card, batteries and bag.
Together, you and I have a rare opportunity that would help me, as the librarian, bring a camera and accessories to the library.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” With the help of your funding, my motto is, "Involve my students with technology and they will learn!" Ben Franklin's motto takes on a 21st century spin with needed technology in schools today. Will you consider helping "involve" my students on a digital journey?
