Introducing Art History and Artists into an Elementary Class

My students need need information about artists, and their place in the history, the paints and canvas help them paint like real artists, and the model magic is kid friendly.

My Students

I am the latest in what seems like a long stream of art teachers in these students lives. They seem so unfamiliar with art history and I would like to introduce it to them in a non threatening manner.

This is a diverse public elementary school in a working middle class Midwestern neighborhood.

They are good kids who are excited about learning. I am having so much fun in the classroom with them! The kids give me so much energy when I see their faces. I am always amazed when I see their work. They are so creative.

My Project

The magazines offer months information about artists and art history in a kid friendly way. The painting canvas boards and acrylic paint will help them feel like real artists, the. Model magic is kid friendly easy to use and rather expensive to submit to my school, but my students lack experience with sculpting and working three dimensionally. .

In the current educational world bubble dotting and getting the right answer are the focus.

A little creativity and critical thinking will do my students a world of good with life long skills employers are searching for. Learning about those who saw things a different way and forever changed art with their contributions should be apart of a comprehensive art program to encourage them to try something new themselves.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
