Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach art to students in grades K-5 in a Title 1, culturally diverse, urban neighborhood school. I would like to provide parents and their children opportunities for creative learning experiences at the school-wide art show this year. My students are really excited about our annual school-wide art show and I can't wait to see their faces light up with pride when they see their artwork displayed! I know that they would love to be able to participate in creating artwork with their families and share their love of art.

I think it is important to give my students opportunities to be leaders. I would like to make the annual school-wide art show more interactive and give my students the opportunity to lead art centers. They will need to create displays complete with visuals and directions for creating art. They will need display boards and ink to print visuals and directions for the art project centers. Unfortunately, the art budget has already been used to purchase consumable art materials. Providing my students with the opportunity to share their love of art will inspire others and promote creativity, self-confidence, and presentation skills in my students.

With your help my students will be able to organize art centers, make displays, involve their parents in creating art and use their knowledge of art to build connections with other members of the school community through art processes such as collage, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. The experience of teaching others will empower my students and inspire them to take on leadership roles and pursue their talents.

I would be so grateful to be able to give my students the chance to share how much they love creating art with the rest of our school community.
