Integrating Technology with Project Based Learning
My students need a color printer with two sets of replacement ink, video camera, wireless microphones, and headphone splitters to work on group projects and presentations as part of Project Based Learning.
My 5th grade students are technology savvy kids that learn through projects and presentations. These 21st century students need opportunities to experiment with Project Based Learning that will help prepare them to be college and career ready! The items I have requested (see below) will help!
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Many are English Learners and many are from a low socio-economic background. A majority of my students do not have experience using technology for learning, so gaining experience with such items in our classroom is very important. Several of my students do not even own a computer at home. Our school is a safe haven for all students to learn and grow together. Many students depend on the stability our school provides and rely on learning not only the basic standards, but learning and gaining other life skills, such as technology and teamwork, at school.
My Project
My students will share the technology based items I have requested to collaborate on a wide variety of group projects that are based on Science, Social Science, and Math Common Core Standards. They will present their projects to the class using the technology I am requesting. The students will not only be learning the Common Core Standards for 5th grade, but also meeting technology standards, as well as Listening and Speaking Standards. Materials requested will be used in the following ways:
*Wireless microphones for oral presentations
*Video camera for recording presentations
*Wireless Color printer for creating visual aids (charts, graphs, displays)
*Headphone Jack Splitters for group collaboration around a single computer
Donations to my project will not only make presentations more dynamic, they will also enrich my student's lives by gaining experience with technology in group presentations.
My students, like all students, are excited by technology and have a thirst to learn more. By integrating technology in to our lessons, we capture the interest of all learners, including those reluctant students who are usually hard to reach.
