"History is a Greek word which means, literally, just investigation." -Arnold Toynbee, a British historian. My students' curiosity is endless. My goal for them is to move away from textbooks and toward online sources, which are endless like their curiosity, so they may investigate past world events.
My students are some of the most passionate, analytical, and determined people I have ever met.
Their love for historical stories is shown on their faces. It reminds me of elementary students listening to a fairytale. Knowing that these stories are true sparks a fire of questions. Some days, I feel like my students come to class, sit at their desks, and immediately raise their hands to ask a million questions about the lesson the day before.
How much they want to know about countries all over the world and the history of those countries never ceases to amaze me. This curiosity can be attributed to their entire lives being lived in a world with the answers to all of their questions a click and search away. The neverending questions do give me gray hairs, but it is their most endearing quality.
My Project
A class size averages 33 students per class. This funding will provide us with 11 Chromebooks. Two historical sources my students have in the classroom right now are the history textbook and my brain. As flattering as it is that my students think I have all the answers, there is no way one person can have all the answers.
With a textbook that sums up a historical event as important as WWII in thirty-three pages, it leaves much to be desired. These Chromebooks will give my students the access to endless amounts of historical sources to answer those lingering questions. These Chromebooks will give students new mediums to create projects that show what they have learned through power points, movies, art, and games. These Chromebooks will also let the students take their learning into their own hands and give them the ability to get immediate feedback from myself. As technology in education continues to advance, so will the possibilities these Chromebooks bring to our classroom.
If history is investigation, then there is no better way to do so than with the tools technology can provide.
Your donation to our classroom will improve the overall learning of all of my students because it will give them the resources that that will teach them about the past and help refine their technological skills for their future careers. It will connect the future generation with the our past.
