My Students

Would you rather go to a playground that had just the standard generic equipment, or would you rather go outside to toys that built skills and were so interesting and challenging that you forgot that it was hot or cold outside?!? I want my kids to be engaged all the time! Not just in the classroom!

We are a group of wonderfully hilarious 4 and 5 year old students.

We attend school in a small, rural community and our school is actually the consolidation of two smaller school districts. The other elementary students attend school in another town, but we are lucky enough to go to school with the big kids at the high school. We love the big kids and they love us. We have a playground that is completely enclosed on all four sides by the building, affording us a safe place to play and grow.

My Project

I believe that children can be engaged everywhere and need to be interacted with. This grant is for several things to enhance our playground time and turn it into a learning experience, building strength, coordination and gross and fine motor skills. Included in the grant is a hop scotch rug (we have a large covered area and we take our stuff in every day), an all around and side to side balance board, three learning game kits including balance and flexibility, running and jumping, and throwing and catching, cones, hop along balls, and a giant (tall as a child) sand and water wheel. In addition to the hop scotch rug, the other materials that could be used inside on rainy days (when we go to the gym) are wrist ribbons, no fail streamers, and nature stilts.

I want our playground experience to be more than just going outside.

I want them to have tools to learn to work together and grow. I want them to gain skill and get better and stronger. I want to build healthy, independent life skills and interests.
