This year I became our school's Pre-K through 2nd grade Special Needs teacher. When I moved into this new classroom and position, I had to leave my Title 1 printer behind. It was replaced with a Ricoh printer purchased with Special Education funds. I am responsible for replacing the ink cartridges.
I teach some of the sweetest kids you will ever meet at our K-6, Title 1 school in a rural county in Alabama.
My pre-school student comes once a week, and I work with him on visual and auditory stimulation, and academic and language development. My kindergarten students have severe fine-motor and gross motor deficits. They also require additional academic and language development. My first graders include students with autism and developmental delays, who require additional academic support. My second graders include students with autism, behavior disorders, hearing impairments, and even a non-verbal student.
In spite of their academic difficulties, they are all eager to learn, and excited about coming to school. My students are members of their general education classroom, as well as my special needs classroom. Coming to my resource room is one of their highlights of the day. It is my goal to involve them in fun, engaging, hands-on activities to increase their learning opportunities.
My Project
I am responsible for reading, language, writing, and math instruction for each of my students. Because of the multi-range grades and abilities, it is important that I provide my students with differentiated lessons and activities to help meet their needs, and close the achievement gap between them and their non-disabled peers.
Utilizing hands-on materials is a must! Many of these materials are often teacher-created: printed from the computer and laminated for durability. With the requested black and color ink cartridges, I will be able to make materials to use during small group instruction, partner games, and independent center activities. Students will be able to practice and review previously learned skills, while working on their ability level.
This ink will also enable me to keep our parents informed through required progress reports and copies of the IEPs.
I am grateful for the high-functioning printer we were provided with; however, the cost of the ink is mind-boggling!
With the lack of funding available in today's classrooms, this printer will be useless once the starter ink has been depleted. I am asking your help to provide us with one of each color ink cartridges to keep the ink flowing!
