Increasing Student Achievement with a Document Camera
My students need to view & share the demonstrations and student examples up close in my inclusion and resource classes (8th grade ELA, math, science, and social studies) through the use of a document camera so that their learning is maximized to its fullest potential.
My students with disabilities are visual learners. They learn best with seeing and experiencing hands on activities in class that captivate and connect to their lives. My students have a variety of disabilities ranging from learning disabilities in reading, writing, & math to Autism.
At Exploris middle school there is a mix of student abilities, but all are exposed to experiential learning.
Our school uses a thematic approach to learning across the curriculum where students are guided through a series of discovery-type activities that provide them with the basis to form their own conclusions and frame their own learning. This has proved to have meaningful results for students with learning disabilities. My students come from all socioeconomic groups from the inner city and the suburbs.
My Project
This project will be for the purchase of an ELMO document camera, a stand-mounted video camera that is linked to an LCD projector and projects an image of anything placed under its lens. The camera will function as a useful classroom tool, particularly for my visual learners, in teaching all aspects of the 8th grade curriculum (ELA, math, social studies, & science) and helping all my students maintain focus. I will use this in my inclusion and resource classrooms (8th grade ELA, math, science, and social studies). More importantly, sharing, critiquing, and improving are an integral part of learning, and this allows students to experience the aha of someones learning. This project will provide my students the opportunity to actively participate and learn about relevant issues that are related to our school's themes. Furthermore, my students will use this ELMO document camera to share their learning with their classmates and learn to become critically-minded thinkers.
Your help will make it possible for my students to take their learning to the next level because it will allow for more differentiation in my lessons and activities.
With this document camera, not only will my students be able to learn the academic skills, but they will also be able to further develop and apply their critical thinking and public speaking skills since they will be sharing their own work and projects. Please donate to this project!
