Students with gifts have extreme curiosity and internal motivation to learn and discover. Internet access helps us connect with the world around us. I want my students to be able to research, explore, and connect online. I also want to teach my students to communicate thoughtfully online.
I teach more than 60 third and fourth grade students with gifts and superior cognitive abilities.
They are frequently overlooked in regular classrooms because they are perceived as not needing support. Nothing could be further from the truth!!! They crave guidance and opportunities to develop their passions and desire for learning.
My Project
Since we only have one district issued computer for the classroom and have to share computer "labs" with the entire building we need access every day in our room when learning opportunities occur. Not only will the Chromebooks give us regular access, they will help us learn to send and communicate information as well. One example is through a fabulous resource called Nowcomment.org where we can engage in online discussions about any topic. Practice with keyboarding and digital literacy is extremely important for preparing our children for their future.
Through guided practice, my students will be able to learn to communicate effectively in print and will have the research access they need.
Donations to this request will ensure that my current and future students have daily online access in my classroom (and not have to rely on a weekly turn, sharing one classroom computer, or waiting until they get home) to research and communicate digitally.
