This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are ready to finish their elementary careers strong. My job is to equip them for the real world, and the real world is driven by technology. They need technology in their hands.
Our little school is really something.
For years, we struggled. Our test scores, our morale... It didn't look so good.
But then...
The state invested in us. They gave us an extra hour to work with students.
Our district invested in us. They gave us more hands to mold the young minds.
The community invested in us. They brought in professional sports teams and others who raised our spirits.
What stayed the same? The students. But with each new investment, our students have shown what they are capable of.
My Project
In today's learning and working environment, a few things are non-negotiable: Collaboration, Communication, Technology.
We're requesting 5 Acer Iconia tablets (and cases to keep them nice) which will allow each group to have access to Windows 8 tools for collaborative work. With the Miracast receiver, students will be able to display their work quickly and easily without worrying about transferring information between devices.
I am also requesting an HP Pavilion TouchSmart computer to help me share information with the students. The computers available to teachers at our school are severely out of date. They are slow to the point of sometimes not even working. This technology will keep us up-to-date, providing a real world education to our students.
There are so many tools we can bring out of the computer lab and into every subject area: Skype for virtual field trips, Apps for skill development, Presentation software for sharing knowledge...
The sky is the limit!
We've received so much support in time and people, but now we need the technology.
And now that we're doing such a great job, some of those resources are moving on to help others.
We can't wait for the day when there is a tablet in the hands of every student, but for now a tablet for each group will make a huge difference in their learning and engagement.
These kids are ready to go all the way!
