My Students

Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman, Goggle: "For most people on Earth, the digital revolution hasn't even started yet. Within the next 10 years, all that will change. Let's get the whole world coding!" I want to start with my 1st graders!

My classroom is filled with very diverse learners with a range of emotional and educational needs.

My job is to continually engage and inspire them to change the world around them in a positive way. They are energetic and full of curiosity. Technology is something they are always drawn to.

My Project

The iPads will be used in a variety of ways in the classroom every day: -Listening Center for Shared Reading experiences -Letter ID and Sounds -Collaborating during Reading, Writing and Math workshops -Visual aids for special education students -Reviewing concepts and teaching others by creating videos lessons (Show Me app etc) -Progress monitoring and setting personal goals. In addition I would like to use the three iPads requested to introduce the students to coding. Coding is the ability to read and write a machine language as well as to think computationally. The Apple iPad is one of the only devices that has apps that support kid friendly coding programs. It is essential to expose our students to this 21st century skill. The time is now to inspire and challenge our students to think big!

In addition to the everyday use of the iPads, learning to code will benefit my students.

The process of learning to code promotes problem-solving skills, confidence, team building, and helps young people understand the world around them. In a world run by technology, being able to both read and write in our environment is more important than ever.
