"Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll live its whole life believing it's stupid." --Albert Einstein. Kids who struggle with reading often struggle to see themselves as a genius when learning is hard. Technology can help enhance confidence as learners.
As a Reading Interventionist, My students are beginning and struggling readers and writers from one of the most urban cities in Iowa.
My students love technology, but most do not have access to technology at home to enhance their learning. While my students are enthusiastic, as struggling readers and writers they are in need of a confidence boost to see themselves as successful. Incorporating what they love can not only aid in confidence, but accelerated learning.
My Project
The iPad will improve the learning experience for my students in several ways. Many of my students come in not knowing their ABC's or how to write them. One of the apps has interactive ways for students to locate and correctly learn their ABC's, which will allow students to accelerate beginning reading. Students can improve fluency by listening to stories read to them. As confidence builds, students can record themselves reading a story and then play it back for themselves and me. They also can incorporate word and letter sorts to aid in accelerated learning of sight words to get them reading even quicker. The possibilities are endless for my students to start seeing themselves as the geniuses they are.
Helping my students gain success through technology will allow my students to not feel like they are a fish trying to climb a tree.
Please think about donating to my students so reading and writing won't be such a struggle any longer.
