Cooperative learning, in-depth discussion, respectful debate, peer modeling, and hands-on learning experiences are what you see when you enter my 5th grade classroom.
My classroom consists of 23 enthusiastic fifth graders.
My students have an intense hunger for knowledge and a growth mindset that allows them to believe that they can do anything with hard work and effort! Our school contains 45% of low income students and a mobility rate of 11%. Like many other districts, ours is struggling financially. For many of our students the school day is their only opportunity get their hands on exciting and up-to-date technology, which is vital for their future success. The iPad would be a reliable resource that would allow me to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students. My students have a real hunger to learn and grow and the iPad will allow them to do just that!
My Project
I need one iPad for use within our classroom. An iPad would be used everyday! It would allow students to work in every subject area; building fluency through DIBELS progress monitoring in reading, creating original pieces of expository and narrative writing in Goggle Docs, videotaping presentations to enhance our speaking and listening skills, and working on XtraMath that will set the foundation for future success in mathematics. The possibilities are endless! Having an iPad would make it possible to more deeply differentiate instruction so every student is getting an education based on his or her specific needs.
This donation will improve my classroom in many ways.
There are currently close to 130 5th graders in our middle school and we have 2 iPads to share throughout the whole 5th grade. Having an iPad for my own classroom will allow the students many more opportunities to use updated technology which is crucial for their success in this very technological world.
