To quote Dr. Seuss, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go!" My students have an amazing desire to read and learn, and I want to help them shoot for the stars!
My students are amazing!
My class make-up ranges from gifted students to students with special learning needs, and each student is excited about reading. Currently, many of my students are from low-income families that do not have access to technology, except at school. In addition, research has prove that through the use of technology, students are more involved and engaged in the classroom, especially with reading. Also with a class that has such a variety of needs, from students who are gifted to those who have learning disabilities, they need technology for reading that will reach them at their personal learning level and help them to reach a successful goal.
My Project
I am requesting 1 Apple iPad mini and 1 protective hard cover. As of now, my school has no iPads or tablets available for use in reading remediation or extension. Through the use of Google accounts and various learning apps, my students can use this iPad to practice basic reading skills and enhance their reading comprehension, differentiating to meet needs from those who need help with basic reading skills to those who need advanced reading analysis and project-based learning. This will help students reach state standard expectations and improve lexile reading levels and overall literacy. Students will also be allowed to access these programs and assessments, and we will be able to join the trend of “going green” by reducing paper and ink supplies needed.
Having this type of technology will allow my students to be better engaged in a way that is attention-grabbing, motivational, and meaningful for them.
Also, the educational needs for such a broad variety of learners that I teach, from the gifted students to the special education students, can be better met by allowing for a tailored reading instructional plan and activities for each individual student.
