Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There was a moment this year that one of my students had that "ah ha" moment of realizing they could read. It made both myself and my student so proud and excited!

I have three class of 20 - 22 students in each class.

95% of my students are ESOL students. Each student of mine brings me so much joy. They have progress greatly this school year, but still need a lot of assistance. The school we attend is an inner city school, with over 600 students in it. Each one of these students is so eager to learn and hardly ever misses a day of school. They know even at the early age of 7 and 8 that going to school and learning to read is extremely important!

My Project

Since a majority of my students are English as a second language, they struggle with sight word recognition and reading comprehension. It takes many of them such an extended amount of time to decode the words, that by the time they finish the short paragraph, they have forgotten what they have read. I think that with the extra sight word practice as well as reading comprehension practice each day, my students will begin to grow greatly. They have that eagerness that if they had a consistent program or activities each day, they would benefit and their reading would sore!

My students mean everything to me.

I love being able to see those "ah ha" moments on their faces. They come to me every day so enthusiastic about reading. I want to be able to provide them with the support that they deserve.
