My students need 2 mini iPads and cases to have access to technology. This will allow them to listen to reading in order to implement the Common Core Standards.
Hearing a book read aloud helps my students see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It provides a model of fluent reading! My students are in need of more opportunities to listen to stories and two mini iPads in my classroom would allow my kiddos to do this.
My school is located in the heart of a large city in Missouri.
It is a Title I school, which means that a percentage of the school's population is made up of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch prices. My students love stories! They love to read, write, tell, and listen to stories. Listening to reading is one of their most favorite times of the day!
My Project
Listening to reading leads to strong readers! It would allow students to expand their vocabulary, develop stronger speaking skills, and improve their comprehension. Exposing my students to a range of narrators and their different styles of reading will deepen their grasp of the reading process. At school we do not have many opportunities for students to listen to stories through technology. My students also do not have the means to purchase technology to listen to reading at home. The mini iPads would allow them to listen to reading more often and could help transform my students into better readers, writers, speakers, and listeners.
This project is important for the students in my classroom because it will allow my students, who do not have the means to technology, to listen to reading and gain insight to using technology.
Both of these things will allow my students to better themselves for their lives in the future.
