Books have the ability to change lives, and I want to instill a love of reading in my students' lives. I want them to WANT to read books-- to desire to jump into another world simply by cracking open a book.
My students (21 of them) attend a somewhat large public elementary school (K-4).
This year I taught them 3rd grade, and next year I will loop with them to 4th grade. As individuals, all of my students are VERY unique. None of them are alike and I love their quirky personalities. Their literature choices also tend to have a broad range (almost as diverse as their personalities!) Thus, I want to provide a variety of literature in my classroom.
My Project
These resources will be very helpful for my students. First, and foremost, it will excite them to read! Also, upon completion of one of these books, my kids can easily take an Accelerated Reader test and earn reading comprehension points. Finally, with a wider range of literature in the classroom, I will be able to offer my kids a choice other than continuously visiting the school library (which has very limited hours). I would be able to assign creative book reports and help develop their interest in various types of literature.
My students need new chapter books, book boxes, and picture books to help them develop a genuine love and joy for reading.
This project is going to help my students become excited to pick up new books and read. It will help turn them in to life-long readers, which is one of the most important skills I believe a student can have.
