My school is a magical place for students and teachers. My students are engaged and lively learners and we explore the world together. We are just wrapping up our service learning projects. I want students leaving my class more aware of the world and all they can do to change it for the better.
The students I teach are just beginning to develop into adolescents.
As they grow into young women, they are also growing into young citizens, becoming more aware of issues affecting us in our local community as well as those larger global issues.
Our school is a school filled with "yes" and "let's make it happen." Our students know that the dedicated staff will work to help them develop their ideas and improve their skills. We all work together as a team and celebrate each other's successes.
Our school's ultimate goal is to grow our students into leaders and send them out ready to change the world in whatever field they choose to enter.
My Project
The water pumps, basins, nutrients, insect spray, mounts, and water tester will all be used to finish setting up our hydroponic garden, which students will maintain and be used to grow food to eat in the cafeteria. Right now, we have the grow towers and lights, if needed, but we need the rest of the supplies to set up the garden.
The donations we receive will improve our classroom because they will allow us to set up our hydroponic garden, which will be cared for by the entire 8th grade.
Math, science, and humanities teachers will work together with our students, and students will learn the scientific mathematic, and social aspects of hydroponic growing.
Our students will learn about and practice ways to solve food and energy issues created by our current consumptive practices.
