My Students

What does the inside of an eye look like? What about the different lobes of the brain? Where are those located?

Well, my group of 200 eighth graders want to find out just that!

Eighth graders are curious in nature and want to not just have an idea but what to know as much as possible. We are in an urban city in the heart of Wisconsin. We face about 40% poverty and yet, we still need and love to learn.

My Project

We already dissect sheep brains and cow eyes in our classroom. The models are a great resource to get a material in their hands earlier. I want my students to be able to work and play with whatever they are working with. To have access to a model which they can take apart, flip around would be amazing. Even more understandable is that the parts are LABELED! No longer are they looking for the vitreous humor, it is the clear ball in the eye model. Sometimes to achieve true understanding we need a few models to aid us on the path.

The human brain and eye are complex organs that my students study.

Please help us firmly create an understanding of WHAT we are learning by placing models in our hands early. Dissections can only happen for a few days, models are forever.
