My Students

Have you ever read a book that affected you on a personal level? The first time I read Hot Zone that is how I felt. By having my students read this novel in my biology class it will increase their reading skills and interest in biology.

My students are a good mix on all different levels.

Students who love school, students who do not. Students who want to learn, students who do not so much. Students who can play sports, students who have to work. Students who are on a fixed-income and need help with daily lunch money. The school itself is one of the largest in the county, a county that is on a tight budget and is not updating books.

My Project

I am hoping that by reading this book, more students will be interested in reading. I also want students to see how viruses are always changing and the imporantance of knowing about how to take care of yourself. There are emerging viruses all the time and I want students to understand how they can be affected.

Students need to work on their reading skills, they need to develop a better understanding of vocabulary and science content.

Hopefully, by having my students read the thrilling, true-life book, The Hot Zone, students will appreciate both reading and biology a little more.
