My Students

My first grade students would love to have colorful bright Zaner-Bloser handwriting books this year to work in and see their progress over the year as they did in kindergarten. Research has proved how important handwriting instruction is, and if kids can give themselves feedback, it's so powerful!

I teach in a neighborhood school that just opened last year.

When a school opens, curriculum is provided, such as the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Program, but we were only provided workbooks for one year. I had a number of students really struggle with fine motor last year, and the workbooks were a powerful tool for them to see their progress.

My Project

The Zaner-Bloser handwriting books I am requesting will be used on an almost daily basis for handwriting instruction. While working on handwriting is the main skill, reading is integrated into the program as well writing instruction. The elements the kids learn about that make up letters are basic elements of design and translate into their drawings and other art projects as well.

While I can make photocopies of black line masters provided with the program we received last year, they are not nearly as satisfying and motivating as a beautifully illustrated colorful book.

Last year in kindergarten, my students really looked forward to handwriting time as a quiet and relaxing activity at the end of a busy day, and I know as first graders they will feel the same way this year.
