Everyday is exciting as I teach my students the best way for them to transition from high school to the adult world by job hunting, filling out job applications, and creating their resumes. By the end of the school year, I would like for my students to be able to accomplish these independently.
My high school is very diverse and 64% of students are low income.
There are 1,098 students enrolled. Twenty percent of the students enrolled have IEPs and three percent are English Language Learners. Some students intend to go on to college, some do not. All students are taught tools that they will need to succeed after high school. My students are ages 15-19 years old and are very eager to learn and find out what the real world has to offer to them. They want to succeed now and after high school.
My Project
My students will use the document camera by being able to see lessons; such as filling out job applications and completing a resume, projected on a big screen. I will project a blank job application using the document camera and teach my students how to fill it out correctly. This will not just take one time to do. This will take multiple days of learning, as many of my students will forget due to their various disabilities. I will do the same thing with creating a resume. I will also be able to project the textbook pages with terms they need to know.
My students will work in groups to brainstorm job hunting tactics using sharpies, post-its, liquid chalk, binder clips, and tape. They will also be able to use the supplies to keep reminders for themselves of what they need to include on their applications. By the end of the unit(s), my students will know how to independently fill out job applications, create a resume, and how to job hunt.
These donations will improve my classroom by giving my students a chance to learn with the technology of the document camera.
My students will use the techniques that I teach them for the rest of their working adult lives.
