This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Cesar Chavez once said, "once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read... we have seen the future, and the future is ours." This is the mentality that I will use to empower my students every day.

My students are 7th graders at a school in an extremely low-income, high crime area in Florida.

On the whole, they know very little about civics and the way our country works-- and, most importantly, how they can make it work better for their community and others like it. It is my hope that what they learn in my class will give them the tools that they need to play a leading role in creating social change.

My Project

Each of my students needs a notebook. It is an extremely basic supply, and without it, it will be much more difficult for them to stay organized and learn as much as possible in my class. Please help empower them to be the future about which Chavez spoke!

When my students are able to have a more comprehensive grasp on how our country works and how they can play a role in changing it, they will have more of the tools they need to make ours a society that is more equitable for all.

I can't imagine a more worthy goal.
